Hey supporters,
Have you ever wondered what is the validity of history found in the Bible? Is it fact or fiction? What does the hard evidence really have to say about the foundation story of the Old Testament: the Exodus out of Egypt? If so, then I have just the movie for you, Patterns of Evidence: Exodus. Patterns of Evidence: Exodus is an in-depth investigation by documentary filmmaker Timothy Mahoney searches for answers to these questions amid startling new finds that may change traditional views of history and the Bible. I must admit, when I initially started watching this film, I was a little concern because the films starts by talking about the evidence that the Israelites exodus out of Egypt did not really happen. In fact, the film interviewed several leading archaeologist and men of faith that reported the scientific evidence shows that the exodus as described in the Bible did not happen. However, as the filmmaker began to look deeper at the evidence I found myself fascinated. Specifically, the film showed the tomb of Joseph and spoke about how his bones/remains were not there. Other parts of the film were interesting are the 12 tombs (one for Joseph and each of his brother; Joseph’s tomb was more elaborate and similar to a king’s tomb); houses that were similar to ones that might have been found in the area of Syria, a large canal with the name with something like "Joseph's canal" and evidence that support the walls of Jericho falling down. I would encourage everyone to add this film to their DVD collection. In addition, this film would make an excellent resource for those that choose to home-school. Well that is all for now, continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you. Corine P.S. If you have not joined the launch team for my new book Teaching Christ's Children about Feeling Angry, you can still do so here. You can also order a copy of the Kindle version of the from Amazon here.

I'm very excited to announce the release of my 5th book . . . “Teaching Christ’s Children about Feeling Angry.” Developing the cover for this book was quite the journey and I went though several stages before I found something I was in love with. Initially, I was trying to decide between the above two pictures. After getting feedback from several people, including my friends in the 30 Day Hustle Facebook Group, I knew I would use the picture on the right. However, the cover was still missing something but I did not know what. All I could identify was that there was too much “white space.” That is when my friend and fellow author, Susette Williams, came along. Out of the kindness of her heart, she designed the first draft of what would become my final cover. When I saw the cover she suggested (see below), I knew it was the one After consulting with Almar Denso, the illustrator for Teaching Christ’s Children about Feeling Angry, I finally had a picture I could work with. From there, I played with what felt like 100 font layouts to end up with a cover I fell in love with. So, now the moment you have been waiting for . . . Drum roll please . . . So . . . What do you think? Please feel free to leave a comment below. As a reminder you can still pre-order “Teaching Christ’s Children About Feeling Angry” for only $8. Or you can order three of my books: Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time; What is Love and Teaching Christ’s Children about Feeling Angry for $24 including shipping when you use the discount code “July2015.”

I am planning on revealing it shortly before the book releases. I am in need of your help once again. Hey supporters,
The VeggieTales have done it again. They have just introduced another great product that teaches as well as entertains – The VeggieTales Comics. There are lots to love about the VeggieTale Comics…. 1. Each comic has three different stories with a great moral lesson. Volume one contains stories of Lyle the Kindly Viking in order to teach about sharing; Dave and the Giant Pickle in order to teach about bravery: and LarryBoy and the Prideosaurus in order to teach about defeating pride. Volume two contains stories of League of Incredible Vegetables in order to teach about handling fear; LarryBoy and the Reckless Ruckus in order to teach about saying you’re sorry; and Josh and the Big Wall in order to teach about obedience. 2. At the end of each volume, there is a Parent Connection page. The Parent Connection page includes a Bible verse and some great questions to ask the little ones in your life. 3. While these books are missing the silly songs that I come to love from VeggieTales, they contain Knock Knock Jokes with LarryBoy. (I'm sure all who have heard me sing is says a silent “thank you Jesus.” ) Besides the above, the illustration in these comics can stand-alone. If you have a little one that cannot read on their own yet, they will likely enjoy sitting and looking at the colorful pictures. The other thing that I enjoyed about these comic books is how easy they are to follow (I have looked at other comic books where you need a mad to follow the story line). My only complaint about these comics is that they include several advertisements for other VeggieTales products (i.e., a new DVD, Netflix show). I don’t know why but seeing advertisements in kids books just rub me the wrong way. Well that is all for now. As always continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you. Corine Family Christian sponsored this giveaway by providing me with a free copy of Volumes 1 & 2 of the VeggieTales Comics. In addition, they are blessing one lucky reader with a copy of Volumes 1 & 2 of the VeggieTales Comics. This giveaway will end July 3 at 11:59 pm EST. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email. If no response, a new winner will be chosen. Open to residents of the US/CAN. Hey Supporters, April, from http://faithnpixiedust.com, wrote an honest review of my book Jaden Goes to Foster Care. Well until next time,
Continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you, Corine Based on the title and cover of the book, I assumed Allia Zobel Nolan’s newest book "When God Turned on the Light" would be a traditional take on the creation story as told in the book of Genesis. However, I was greeted by something all together different but accurate and profound. When God Turned on the Light takes both children and adults on a journey from creation to Christ and teaches that God is the source of all life and light. This book is written in a lyrical style and only contains a sentence or two per page. There is an accompanying vibrant illustration on each page. The illustration invites children to take a closer look. I must admit that I had to read this books several times before I was able to pick up on the deeper meaning in the book. However, this is one of the things that endear this book to me. It is simple enough for a child to enjoy but complex enough for an adult not to mind reading it over and over again. Well that is all for this week, please continue to pray for me. Specifically, pray that I complete my next book by the end of May 2015. The draft of my next book has been done for over a month; however, I have lacked the motivation/energy to finish it. As always, know I am praying for you. Corine Greetings Supporters, May is National Foster Care Month, a month set aside to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections. In order to kick off National Foster Care Month, the kindle version of Jaden Goes to Foster Care will be on sale. Specifically, please see the below discount schedule. May 1 at 8 am PST - .99 cent May 2 at 4pm PST $1.99 May 4 at 12 am PST $2.99 May 5 at 8 am PST $3.99 May 6 at 4pm PST $4.99 May 8 at 12 am PST $7.96 (original price) Beyond discounting Jaden Goes to Foster Care, I am looking for other ways this books can support foster families. So if you have an idea, please leave it below. Until next time, please continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you. Corine What if you could ask God anything? What would you ask? And how would He answer? These are the questions that are explored in Mac Lacado’s newest fiction novel, Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café. I must admit that while I was intrigued by the book, I also thought it was a little corny. In fact, the first chapter or so may leave you thinking the same thing. However, I would encourage you to continue to read. This book takes place in the heart of San Antonio where newly separated Chelsea reopens her moms' coffee shop in an effort to put her life back together after separating from her NFL husband. Despite her best efforts, things don’t go as Chelsea plan. There is a lot to love about this book, including characters were quirky yet realistic; complicated relationships that may remind you of your life or at least someone you know; and the underline message to never give up hope. Woven throughout this story is also the Christian message of redemption, forgiveness, and rebirth. Two final things that I love about this book: 1) while the Christian story is woven throughout, it is done in a way that a nonbeliever would love this book as well. 2) this book also contain twelve discussion questions at the end, which makes it the perfect book for a book club, women’s group or for quiet reflection. Until next week, Continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you, Corine P.S. I would like to thank Max Lucado, Tommy Nelson and Family Christian Stores for providing me a free copy of Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café to review. As a child psychologist, I know the power that routines and ritual have over children. One of the first recommendations I often make when treating children is to encourage their parents to increase the number of routines and ritual in the child’s life. In fact, I am so convinced of the power of routines, I wrote Jaden Goes to Foster Care. So you can understand my excitement to received Diane Stortz ’s newest book Words to Dream On. Words to Dream On is a combination of a Bible storybook and book of prayers. There are several things that make Words to Dream On the perfect book for your little ones bedtime. First Words to Dream On is a combined Children’s Bible and prayer book. Secondly, each story included a Bedtime Blessing (a short summary thought), Words to Dream On (a brief Bible verse), and a Sleepy-Time Prayer (a good-night prayer tied to the theme of the story). Finally, the illustrations in this book are AWESOME! If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself by downloading a sample of the book here: http://www.dianestortz.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/WordsToDreamOnSampler2.pdf Words to Dream On contains 26 stories from the Old Testament and 26 from the New Testament. The stories are presented to the order they occur in the Bible (i.e., starting with Creation and ending with “Forever with Jesus"). I also appreciate the way Stortz’s paraphrases the Bible in a soothing child-friendly manner that stays true to the Bible. Well that is all for now, please continue to pray for me and know that I am praying for you. Corine Hey Supporters, I have partnered with Educents to offer 2 of my books, My Journey With Jesus Christ & Why I Give - An Activity Book, at a really great price. Both books are on sale for $4.99 until April 18, 2015. Not only that, if you use this link you will get a $10 Educents credit which will make the books Free. Well that is all for now, please pray for me and know that I am praying for you. Corine Hey Supporters,
If you have been following me for a while, you know each year I try to think of a Resurrection activity to do with the little people in my life. This year, I will be using an Easter Bunny to teach about the character of Christ. Click here for the complete devotional, along with several options for the craft. Until next week, Continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you, Corine Hey Supporters, I have something exciting to share with you. As you already know, adopting and foster care are close to my heart. The topics have even inspired me to write a picture book about it: Jaden Goes to Foster Care. Recently, Family Christian Stores offered me a chance to review Adventures in Odyssey The Drop Box: Three Stories about Sacrifice in exchange for my honest opinion. Adventures in Odyssey: The Drop Box contains three stores. The first story is inspired by the movie The Drop Box. In the first story, Whit and Eugene are in South Korea where they meet Pastor Lee Jong-rak. While at Pastor Lee’s house they soon learn that children who are not perfect by the world standards are being abandoned. Whit and Eugene team up with Pastor Lee to help these children find a safe home and purpose in life. This story will not only remind you that everyone has a purpose but we can be the very person God uses to bring change to the world. The second and third story: The Chosen One brought me to tears. In this story, a little girl by the name of Kelly finds her way to WhitsEnd. It is unclear of what she is doing there and why she is all alone. As the good folks of Odyssey attempt to embrace Kelly with the love of Christ things begin to go wrong. Soon it seems, the hard they embrace Kelly the more things go wrong (if you ever foster a child you can definitely relate to this). They soon discover that Kelly ran away from an abusive home. Will anyone in Odyssey take in this Kelly in and provide her a foster home even though Kelly is so hard to love? I love this audio CD because it presents difficult topics in a child friendly manner, while still speaking to adults. This CD is perfect for car trips (each story is only about 30 minutes) or a family devotional. I can also see the story of the Chosen One being used by a family with children who is considering foster care. At under $3, be sure to pick out a copy for your family. Family Christian Stores sponsored this giveaway by providing me with a free copy of The Drop Box. In addition, they are blessing the lucky readers will win a $5 Certificate to Family Christian. This giveaway will end March 28 at 12:00 AM EST. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email. If no response, a new winner will be chosen. Open to residents of the US/CAN. And the winners are Lauren L; Michal K & Christie B.
Well Supporters, My friends at Zondervan are doing it again. They are sponsoring another great Easter Basket Book Giveaway (try saying that three times fast). This year’s giveaway includes a little something for all the little (and not so little ones in your life). For the preschooler in your life: Little Bunny's Bible - The Little Bunny’s Bible is a soft, cuddly Bible that children age 2-5 can call their own. Throughout this plush-covered book, little ones learn that they’re loved and cared for by God as they hear about God’s faithfulness in stories from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. With sweet, rhyming text and colorful illustrations, this soft and cuddly character storybook Bible is sure to become a classic with preschoolers.
For the early elementary schooler in your life: Miracles of Jesus (I Can Read! / Adventure Bible) - Miracle of Jesus is a level two I Can Read! based on the NIV Adventure Bible. In it, young readers read about how great God’s love is for all people. At this read-alone level, newly independent readers follow Jesus as he travels, spreading the Good News of his Father’s love. Along the way, Jesus shows in wondrous ways just how powerful God’s love is when he brings health back to a young girl and a long-suffering woman, and how he gives comfort to thousands of believers with a delicious meal as well as the precious word of God.
For the preteen: The Case For Grace for Kids - What does “grace” really mean? How can God’s grace impact your life? How can you experience grace every day? This new book by New York Times bestselling author, Lee Strobel, shows how God’s love is for everyone—no matter what. Through stories of everyday people whose lives have been changed, you will discover God’s love and the power of forgiveness. You will experience God’s amazing grace and be able to share it with others.
For the teen: You Have a Brain: A Teen’s Guide to Think Big, - Throughout his life, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson has needed to overcome many obstacles: His father leaving the family; being considered stupid by his classmates in grade school; growing up in inner-city Detroit; and having a violent temper. But Dr. Carson didn't let his circumstances control him, and instead discovered eight principles that helped shape his future. In You Have a Brain: A Teen’s Guide to Think Big, Dr. Carson unpacks the eight important parts of Thinking Big—Talent, Honesty, Insight, being Nice, Knowledge, Books, In-Depth learning, and God—and presents the stories of people who demonstrated those things in his life. By applying the idea of T.H.I.N.K. B.I.G. to your life, and by looking at those around you as well, you too can overcome obstacles and work toward achieving your dreams. This book includes discussion questions at the back of the book. Hey Supporters, As you may remember about this time last year, I challenged myself to review 104 books in a year. While I started the year out strong, the last few months have been problematic. It looks like the book I am doing with a publisher has been delayed again (please keep this situation in your prayers as I have allowed the delays to consume way too much of my time and energy). So instead of reviewing 104 books, I only reviewed 55 books. In addition, my Amazon Reviewer Ranking has been slowly creeping up. It is now 79,742 (up almost 30,000 points since the last time I checked). If you have a book or a product that you are interested in me reviewing please check my reviewer guidelines. So enough with the boring details. Now for the moment you have been waiting for. The best book I have reviewed and read in the last month. So drum roll please.... The honor for the February 2015 Book of the Month Pick by Corine is...... Love Letters From God. As a child I loved lift-the-flap books. I was always excited to see what surprise was under the flap. Needless to say, I am super excited about Zonderkidz’ newest Bible storybook entitled Love Letters From God. Love Letters from God covers 18 popular Bible stories (half from the Old Testament and half from the New Testament). Each story has a correlating Bible verse, entitled ‘God’s Wonderful Words to You’.” Each ‘God’s Wonderful Word to You’ was a carefully chosen promise that is important for your child to remember. There is also a life-the-flap for each story that is a Love Letter from God to your child. You can lift-the-flap and personalize each letter with your child’s name (I would recommend doing this when you first get the book). For example, the creation story is told, the accompanying ‘God’s Wonderful Word to You’ is Jeremiah 29:11, and accompanying ‘Love Letter’ talks about how happy God made your child and has wonderful plans for him/her. This book reminds me of my own book, My Journey with Jesus Christ, in which parents can write a prayer/love letter to their children. While I am picking this book as my book of the month, I do have a few slight issues with this book.
That is all for now. Continue to pray for me as I pray for you, Corine Hey, supporters, guess what I just discovered? Another great book that answers life’s questions from a biblical perspective: God Gave Us Angles. In God Gave Us Angels, a Little Cub begins to ask her Papa about angels. Papa in turn answers each question based on what the Bible says. Some of the questions answered in the book include:
My only complaint about this book is that it does not include Bible verses for parents and children to refer to as they read. For example, on one page of the book it says, "We should be nice to everyone we meet, because some might be angels in disguise." I know that this statement is based on Hebrews 13:2. I would have loved to see a set of similar books that include the Bible verse and reference on the actual page. Alternatively, the author could have listed all the Bible verses in the back. Despite the lack of Bible verses, I think this books is definitely worth adding to your library. Well if you did (and even if you didn’t), I have the perfect game for you: Wisdomantics. Wisdomantics combines the competitiveness / game strategy of Monopoly, King Solomon-focused Bible trivia, and opportunities for authenticity and relationship-building. Specifically, Wisdomantics–New King James Version (NKJV) is an interactive DVD board game for players of various faiths who desire to gain the vast wisdom of King Solomon. Wisdomantics-NKJV utilizes the proverbs of Solomon and blends chance, knowledge and strategy to create a fun experience while you learn! The game’s intent is to bring individuals together to learn how to cope with numerous situations in a fun and relaxed environment. Inside the box you’ll find 2 interactive DVDs with 400 questions, score cards, blessing cards, and more! In order to play this game, you have to have a dvd player. Once setup, you select one of 400 questions. Once the question is selected, the player has 30 seconds to read the question, answers, choose the answer, and click their guess. Since the questions are not read out loud, you will need to read quickly in order to be able to answer the question before time is up. If you pick the correct answer, you’ll see the King Solomon (who reads the verse out loud) and be instructed to take a card. If you do not get it right the first time, there are two more chances to get the question right. The goal of the game is to collect three different color tiles in order to build Solomon’s temple. There are no dice in this game, instead you move around to board with advancement cards. The spaces on the board allow you to gather the tiles you need to build the temple. In addition, there are “Praise Report” “Detention Chambers” and “Prayer Request.” To say this game is overwhelming initially will be an understatement. However, there is a youtube video that breaks down how to play and once you get the hang of it, it is quite fun. In addition, you can play this game with just the DVD as sort of like Trivia Pursuit. If you play the game like Trivia Pursuit, you can play with teams. If this game sounds like something you would enjoy, please use the below app to enter to win. “Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Hey Supporters,
I was recently asked to review For Such a Time as This, a Christian Children’s Book that covers the women in the Bible. In fact, this book covers 40 different women. Of course, this book covers the well know women in the Bible, but is also cover lesser known women such as Gomer and Tabitha, and even several women that the Bible mentions but does not name. What I love about this book, is that it stays true to what the Bible says about women. While I am not a Biblical scholar, I could not find where For Such a Time as This conflicted with the Bible. In terms of use, I recommend using For Such a Time as This for the tween age range. Specifically, I think this book would be great for a tween to read with an adult. I am a big believer in reading to and with children even after they can read independently. The thing that makes For Such a Time as This a great book for tweens is that each Bible story ends with a He/Me/She section. The “He” section explains one of God’s traits and why that trait is important. The “Me” section provides the adult with a few discussion points on the story in order to help the child figure out how the story applies to them (i.e., me). Finally, the “She” section offers a prayer that the adult can pray with the child, after reading the story. Family Christian Stores sponsored this giveaway by providing me with a free copy of For Such a Time as This. The Veggie Tales was originally created by Phil Vischer. Therefore, when I heard Phil had a new cartoon series out. What’s In the Bible, I jumped at the chance to review one of his DVDs. I was told that the purpose of the What’s In the Bible is to teach adults and children how the stories we are familiar with (i.e., creation, Moses, Noah, David, and Jesus) all fit together to tell one big, redemptive story. The DVD I reviewed in entitled What’s In The Bible: Jesus is the Good News. This is volume 10 of 13 volume series. What’s In The Bible: Jesus is the Good News includes (2) 25-minute episodes: God’s Perfect Timing & The Messiah Has Come! God’s Perfect Timing shows as Buck Denver, the puppet news reporter, and his crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time. I really liked the first episodes because it answered a lot of questions about what happened between the Old and New Testament that adults and children have. As you probably guessed, The Messiah Has Come teaches about the life and ministry of Jesus. It covers Jesus’ Miracles, Healings & Teachings, The Last Supper, Jesus’ Arrest and Trial, Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection, and Jesus’ Ascension. Consistent with all of Phil creations, there is a catchy theme song and great animations. The thing that I really love about this new series is that it is Bible base and theologically sound. The DVD comes with a family discussion guide and covers the material in-depth. Therefore, I think this makes a great resource to use as a family devotional or Bible study time. I would not recommend this DVD as a “baby sister DVD” (I pray you know what I am referring to when I use that term). I am literally planning on stopping by my local Family Christian Store today to see if I can pick out a few more title in this series. Both Amazon and Family Christian Stores have these DVDs on sales for less that $10. Note: Giveaway open to US and Canada residents only. Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway. If you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again. Winner is subject to eligibility verification.

Hey Supporters, wanted to tell you about something a little different today: folk music. Some describes folk music at the salt of the earth music and I recently discovered a wonderful CD by Jim Hendricks entitled Appalachian Holiday. Jim Hendrick is considered one of the leaders of folk music. Folk music is as busy as the people who create it and it changes and flows like the streams of the mountains. Jim Hendrick mastered several instruments and has a way of pairing the melodies and harmonies. He can play guitar, mandolin, and the autoharp. This means that his music is soulful and alive. The wonderful thing about Jim is that he has experience writing music beyond the genre of folk music. He has written country music and contemporary Christian. His music really pleases the ear. His Christmas CD Appalachian Holiday is an old take on Christmas favorites. It contains fun songs, such as “Over the River and Through the Woods,” and traditional hymns, such as “O Holy Night.” It even contains songs such as “Coventry Carol.” These songs are beautifully imagined in the harmony of plucked strings. There are no distractions, just beautiful music. In my experience, Christmas music can be a bit over the top. It seems as if the songs don't change much over the years, and each song has been sung by every artist, dead and alive. The beauty of this CD is that I brings the music back to itself. It reminds us to bring Christmas back to itself. The music cuts through all of the excess and all of the glamour of the season and reminds us to just listen. The strings sing together to create memories of Christmas past and future. Appalachian Holiday is also comforting. I can imagine listening to it in front of a crackling fire beside a life Christmas tree. It takes me back to the essence of Christmas. The pleasure of this music is in the music itself. It brings out the beautiful simplicity of the melody and reminds us of the beautiful simplicity of Christmas. This CD is essential for your Christmas music collection. This CD will be the one that you will grab on cold nights with dim lighting. It will also be the CD that you grab when you are tired of all of the modern versions of the songs that you have heard over and over. This CD is the chicken soup of the music world. It's not the fanciest version around. It doesn't have all of the flash and marketing of the modern music, but Jim Hendricks manages to create a sound that keeps you warm and soothes your soul. Family Christian Stores sponsored this giveaway by providing me with a free copy of the CD. In addition, they are blessing one lucky reader will win a $10 Certificate to Family Christian.
