Hey Supporters, As you have probably figured out my goal of reviewing books is not going well. While I have been reading a lot, finding the time to actually sit down and write the review is a little challenging. So please pray that I somehow accomplish my goal of reviewing 104 children books by the end of the year. Despite the problems I’m having with actually posting reviews, my current Amazon Reviewer Ranking is 51,733 (down about 4,000 points since the last time I checked 2/3 months ago). If you have a book or a product that you are interested in me reviewing please check my reviewer guidelines. So enough with the boring details. Now for the moment you have been waiting for. The best book I have reviewed and read in the last month. So drum roll please.... The honor for the August 2014 Book of the Month Pick by Corine is...... Psalms and Prayers for Little Ones by Allia Zobel NolanWow, that was my initial response when reading Psalms and Prayers for Little Ones. Not only is this book written in a way a child can understand but it also opened my insight into some of the Psalms. As I continued reading this book, my excitement quickly grew. There are so many things to love about this book. First, the heart of this book is to convey to children that while the Psalms were written a long time ago, the people who wrote them had the same kinds of ups and downs, challenges, questions and prayers kids have today. As you probably already know, I love books that teach children that God’s Word (the Bible) is relevant today. This is also the goal of every book I write. However, there are other things to love about this book. It includes 11 popular Psalms that are written in a child friendly manner. Just like many adults read through the Psalms to express deep unspoken prayer of their heart, children can now read through Psalms and Prayers for Little Ones when they are looking for words to express what is in their hearts to God. The Psalms in this book cover sadness, happiness and even anger. Finally, when I thought this book could not get any better, it ends with a “Digging Dipper” section to reinforce what children have learned and a vocabulary section. I can see the book being used in so many different ways. It would make the perfect book for a Sunday school class that is studying the Psalms. I can also see it being used as part of a home-school curriculum and as a parent/child devotional. That is all for now. Continue to pray for me as I pray for you, Corine

As a kid, I loved playing hangman and, as an adult, my love for this game has grown. This game requires very little preparation, requires very few supplies and can be easily modified to see how much a child has learned about a topic. However, as a Christian I realized that idea of hanging someone was not very godly. In order to enjoy the benefits of this game but make it a little ‘godlier’ I started playing praying man with my Sunday school class. To my delight, they loved this game as much as I loved it as a child.
Praying Man is played just like Hangman. However, I make the following changes:

Bundle #71: Just for PreschoolersClick here to get yours today (PDF only)!
Get yours today! But hurry because this bundle is available this week only (through Monday, 8/18 at 8 a.m. ET). Greeting Supporters, You are in for a treat today. Not only am I providing you with an update but at the end, I will be introducing you to another Christian Children Author. Today I am participating in a “blog hop.” Encase you are wondering what is a “blog hop.” A “blog hop” is where one person post a blog and "tag" or mention another blog in the post. The person that is mentioned then post a blog and tag/mention someone else. The idea is that if you want to, you can follow the blog trail across many different author websites or blogs and find out what authors are doing all over the place! Most “blog hops” have themes. Last year, I participate in a blog hop on the theme of Children's Authors. This blog hop is cover the theme “Writing Process.” So I caught the proverbial baton from Penny Reeve. Penny is the author of more than 15 children's books including the popular 'Find the Animal' and 'Tania Abbey' series. As the child of missionaries, she grew up in a variety of cross-cultural settings and loves to write about how faith changes the way we respond to the world around us. Penny now lives in Sydney, Australia, with her husband, three children and two dogs. If you’d like to read more about Penny and what she’s currently working on follow this link back to her website. Here’s a bit about me for those of you who are new to me: My name is Corine and I write books, picture books to be exact. So far I have four books published and I am working on my 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th … maybe my 9th and 10th depending on the day of the week, lol. What am I working on? As you can tell from the above answer, I have a lot that I am working on. Currently, I am waiting on the publisher to send me a completed draft of Godly Feelings. I am really excited about this book because it combines my training as a child psychologist with my Christian faith. Godly Feelings is scheduled to be released November 4, 2014. You can preorder Godly Feelings for $6 plus shipping here. I am also working on my first non-Christian book Jaden Goes to Foster Care. It scheduled to be released October 7, 2014. While this is a non-Christian book I am praying that it will minister to the millions of children in foster care and their parent’s (both biological and foster parents). You can preorder Jaden Goes to Foster Care for $6 plus shipping here. You can purchase any of my books through my website here or Amazon here. How does my work differ from others of its genre? With regards to my Christian picture books, I think the major difference between my books and others that are in its genre is the fact there are Bible verses on several pages. My desire with my picture books is to teach children (and adults) that the Bible has answers to all life’s questions. Why do I write what I do? I think I already answered this question above, lol. I guess the other reason why I write what I do is because I have always turned to the Bible for answers (even before I became a Christian). I believe that God placed the desire to search His Word for answers at an early age. How does my writing process work? I have no idea, lol. Literally, my first book took years to write, while the second one I wrote early one morning. Since then I have struggled to develop a process. One thing that is consistent with all my books, even Jaden Goes to Foster Care, is that the process starts and ends with prayer. I pray before I write, while I am writing and even once I done. My prayer is that the Lord will use me (write though me) and that each book will minister to those who read it. Now it is time to pass the baton to my colleague Mary Ellen Green. Mary Ellen is a fellow Christian author who published one book so far: A Starry Night and is working on her second book Splash. You can learn more about her by visiting http://maryellengreenauthor.blogspot.com/ Well that is all for now, please pray for me and know I am praying for you. Then VeggieTales: Celery Night Fever is for you. About the movie: Laura Carrot, the main character, determined to save the city park from being turned into a parking lot by getting her grandfather (Larry the Cucumber) to stage a reunion concert with the disco band he headlined forty years ago. The problem? None of those guys are talking to each other, all of them are holding unforgiveness in their heart for how the band fell apart all those years ago. In addition, Laura’s efforts to save the park may also ruin her friendship with Junior Asparagus. My Review: I love movie night. I particularly love movies that teach a lesson and help the viewers build their faith in the Lord. The Veggietales: Celery Night Fever does just that. This movie is designed to reinforce the Biblical principle of forgiveness found in Ephesians 4:32. In order to accomplish this goal, it shows how unforgiveness can threaten a child’s friendship and how unforgiveness affects adult relationships years down the line. While the 70s theme may go over most children’s heads, parents who remember rocking out in the 70s will have a chance to share a part of their past with their children. In addition, this movie has two parallel stories of forgiveness that can lead additional sharing and discussing between parent and child. My only complaint is the link for downloads included in the DVD does not work. I was eventually able to find coloring pages to go along with the DVD on the VeggieTales website. Note: Giveaway open to US and Canada residents only. Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway. If you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again.
