As you can probably tell from my previous post, I really live the Veggie Tales series. The Veggie Tales was originally created by Phil Vischer. Therefore, when I heard Phil had a new cartoon series out. What’s In the Bible, I jumped at the chance to review one of his DVDs. I was told that the purpose of the What’s In the Bible is to teach adults and children how the stories we are familiar with (i.e., creation, Moses, Noah, David, and Jesus) all fit together to tell one big, redemptive story. The DVD I reviewed in entitled What’s In The Bible: Jesus is the Good News. This is volume 10 of 13 volume series. What’s In The Bible: Jesus is the Good News includes (2) 25-minute episodes: God’s Perfect Timing & The Messiah Has Come! God’s Perfect Timing shows as Buck Denver, the puppet news reporter, and his crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time. I really liked the first episodes because it answered a lot of questions about what happened between the Old and New Testament that adults and children have. As you probably guessed, The Messiah Has Come teaches about the life and ministry of Jesus. It covers Jesus’ Miracles, Healings & Teachings, The Last Supper, Jesus’ Arrest and Trial, Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection, and Jesus’ Ascension. Consistent with all of Phil creations, there is a catchy theme song and great animations. The thing that I really love about this new series is that it is Bible base and theologically sound. The DVD comes with a family discussion guide and covers the material in-depth. Therefore, I think this makes a great resource to use as a family devotional or Bible study time. I would not recommend this DVD as a “baby sister DVD” (I pray you know what I am referring to when I use that term). I am literally planning on stopping by my local Family Christian Store today to see if I can pick out a few more title in this series. Both Amazon and Family Christian Stores have these DVDs on sales for less that $10. Note: Giveaway open to US and Canada residents only. Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway. My favorite bible base cartoon as a child was Davey and Goliath way back when. As a childcare provider my children watch a lot of the Veggie Tales and they love them and the things that they teach.
