Hello Supporters, I have a confession to make, I really dislike the book, Alexander Very Bad Horrible Day by Judith Viorst. I know this book is a classic; has won a bunch of awards, and has a billion positive reviews but I really don’t like the negativity. In fact, when I have used Alexander Very Bad Horrible Day in therapy my patients are usually more negative and unmotivated to change their lives. So imagine my excitement when I found a useful alternative to Alexander Very Bad Horrible Day: It's A Super-Bad Terrible Day! by Virginia Finnie. In It’s A Super Bad Terrible Day!, author Virginia Finnie shows children and adults that even if a day is not going well, there are things you can do in order to cope. For example, in Alexander Very Bad Horrible Day, and in It’s A Super-Bad Terrible Day! the main character wakes up to a problem (tripping on a skateboard, and stepping on Legos). In Alexander’s book, the main character goes on to say “I know it is going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day” and encounters more problems. However, in It’s A Super-Bad Terrible Day!, the main character realizes a bad start to the day doesn’t mean the entire day is terrible. So he picks up his Legos and moves on with his day. The other thing I love about Virginia’s book is that it ends in hope. The closing sentence of her book is “You can do it. You’re pretty tough. So hang in there when the going gets rough.” This is a message that everyone needs to hear. As you probably know, Alexander’s book ends with a statement “It has been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. My mom says some days are like that.” So supporters, if you have Alexander Very Bad Horrible Day; I strongly suggest you replace it with It's A Super-Bad Terrible Day! by Virginia Finnie. Well that is all of now supporters. Please continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you. Corine P.S. Greetings Supporters, As you know supporters, my goal is to share Jesus one book at a time. I do this by not only writing books but also helping you find great Christian books. Today I want to share with you just such a book: Jesus Today Devotions for Kids. Jesus Today Devotions for Kids is the new book by Sarah Young and Tama Fortner. This book is about Jesus and His amazing love for you. Jesus Today Devotions for Kids contains 150 devotions that are perfect for children about seven to ten years old. Each devotion is set up in a two page spread. The first page is the actual devotion and the next paged includes several Bible verses for children to think upon. The devotionals are based on the Bible and are written as if Jesus is speaking directly to the reader. Some of the devotions that are covered in this book include trusting God, the power of prayer, God is always with us, peace, second chances, God love never ends, self-control. I like the fact that the devotions are not dated, which means you can start this devotion at any time. (Note, there is an attached ribbon that you can use as a bookmark to keep track of your page). I noticed two other things about this book. 1) There are not pictures. This may be a little hard for younger children (i.e., children under the age of eight). However, since each devotion is only a page long, this book may also be the “perfect” transition to more “adult” devotions and Bibles. 2) There is an index of scripture in the back of the book which means this book can also be used as a references book. Well that is all for now, please continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you. Corine P.S. Be sure to enter to win a copy of this book below.

As you know, I love find great children books, especially books written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, when I was offered the chance to read Angels in the Bible Storybook I happily said “yes,” even though I already reviewing a book about angels (See my review of God Gave Us Angles). Angels in the Bible Storybook had me hooked from the first story. Angels in the Bible Storybook opens with the story of creation. I was initially surprised to even see the story of creation in a book about angels in the Bible. As a Christian for over a decade or two, I have read and taught others the creation story. Due to my vast experience with the creation story, I was sure the Bible did not include them. To my surprise and delight, the author revealed angels were a part of the creation story and even backed it up with Scripture. Angels in the Bible Storybook is a wonderful book that I highly recommend. In addition, to learning where were the angels when God created the world, readers of Angels in the Bible Storybook will learn: Why did an angel force a donkey off a road? Who did the angels get out of jail twice? And other fascinating information about angels. Be sure to pick up a copy of Angels in the Bible Storybook from Amazon or wherever Christian books are sold. Well until next time, please continue to pray for me and know I am praying for you, Corine A Resource to Help You to Teach Your Children to Be ThankfulHow Do I Teach My Child to Be Thankful? is a question that most parents are asking this time of year. Thankfully, Amanda Pelser has developed a resource to help you walk alongside your children and help them develop an attitude of thanksgiving. Be Thankful: Cultivating Year-Round Thankfulness .
Part Two: For What Things Should We Give Thanks to God?
The book ends with an Appendix of resources including a Be Thankful Journal and several different choices for handwriting practice: tracing printing, cursive, and regular printing. Corine
Thankful Books For Adults Happy Friday Supporters, Welcome to week nine of Blogging Through The Alphabet with Marcy @ BenandMe.com. The letter “I” will be used to honor the book of the month, but before I reveal the book of the month I just want to give you a quick update on my Amazon Reviewer Ranking. My current Amazon Reviewer Ranking is #58,649 (up slightly from last month). In addition, I have reviewed seven books in June for a total of42 books. If you have a book or a product that you are interested in me reviewing please check my reviewer guidelines. As you may recall, I decided to spotlight one book a month. The best book I have reviewed in the last month. So drum roll please.... The honor for the June 2014 Book of the Month Pick by Corine is...... The Innkeeper’s Dog By Deborah Bence Boerema. About the Book: Author Deborah Bence Boerema was was led to write The Innkeeper's Dog early one Christmas season to fill the drawers of a large wooden Advent calendar for her son, Nathan. Rather than filling the drawers with candy or trinkets that would quickly be eaten, lost, or forgotten, she was given the idea to fill them with pages from a Christmas story. She felt this needed to be a story that would be new to Nathan, and she wanted a story related to the first Christmas in Bethlehem. When she couldn't find a story to suit her needs, she was inspired to write one. She knew Nathan enjoyed stories about animals. The old Christmas carol "The Friendly Beasts" came to mind. In this song, each animal in the stable tells of the gifts he or she gave the infant Jesus. Thinking that Nathan would relate more to a dog than to a cow or a donkey, she was prompted to create the character of Thaniel the Spaniel. Then she set about answering the question of what Thaniel would have given the Christ child if he'd had a verse in the song. The result is a story that became a special part of Nathan's Advent calendar that year. She hope The Innkeeper's Dog will become a special part of your Christmas celebration, too! My Review: How would you feel if you were the only animal in the stable to miss seeing Baby Jesus being born? How about if you listen to all your friends repeatedly talk about how great the night was and all the wonderful gifts they gave Baby Jesus? What if you realized you did not have a gift or talent to give Baby Jesus? These are all things Thaniel the Spaniel faces in The Innkeeper’s Dog by Deborah Bence Boerema. In the story, Thaniel is able to recognize all the reasons he should be grateful (i.e., shelter, food, friends). However, he still struggles with feelings of jealousy, anger, and sadness about missing the birth of Baby Jesus and having to listen to the stories told by his friends about their awesome talents. Even after Thaniel starts working as a sheep dog, he is unable to recognize his purpose. Then, one day, his owner is able to clarify Thaniel’s purpose and help him understand why he does not remember the birth of Baby Jesus. This book is a touching story which relates that God created each of us for a purpose and with gifts and talents. It is packed with discussion points from beginning to end and you may find yourself reading it over and over again to the little ones in your life. Specifically, I think this book can be used in the following ways:

Good Day Supporters, Welcome to week six of Blogging Through The Alphabet with Marcy @ BenandMe.com. This week I would like to talk about finding joy in honor of the letter F. Can I share with you a secret prayer? One of my heart’s desires is to exude joy. However, it is a constant struggle for me to be joyful. You see, I work full-time as a psychologist in inner city Baltimore. My patients often come to me for help with problems I cannot even image facing, such as surviving childhood trauma or struggling to get their child much needed special education services. Sometimes, they come to me after experiencing the death of a loved one or for help battling a drug addiction that was caused by battling demons in their past. So each day I find it hard to exude joy. I am often left discouraged and wondering what is the point. However, Spreading Joy Daily gives me hope. It provided me with one simple idea each day of how to spread joy; how to become more aware of others and see the full potential each day has for joy. In addition to providing one idea for spreading joy each day, Marie provides ‘nuggets of joy’, also known as encouraging quotes each month. Sometimes I decide to do that day’s suggestions and sometimes I decide to keep reading until I find an idea I want to try. Marie is so committed to spreading joy that she decided to give 100% of the profits to helping others. That’s right, she has zero paid employees; everyone, including Marie, is a volunteer. She loves spreading joy just that much. She is also willing to send you ‘Spread Joy’ cards that you can use to secretly pay for someone’s coffee or meal for free (just send a SASE). To learn more about the Spreading Joy Cards click here. To help get you started spreading joy, check out these two posts:
In tribute to Marie and Spreading Joy Daily, I would like to spread some joy myself by offering a giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a copy of Marie’s book and a copy of my book Why We Give Gifts at Christmas Time. Please leave a comment below about how you try to spread joy and you will be entered to win. I will pick one winner on June 20, 2014. As always, continue to pray for me as I pray for you, Corine P.S.
